Myanmar In New Talks To Buy Electricity From China

Myanmar is in need of more energy and is reportedly in talks to buy electricity from China, according to officials and documents that were reviewed by Reuters. The talks indicate continued warming ties between Beijing thanks to new leadership from Aung San Suu Kyi. Suu Kyi took office in April last year and has sought to mend some of the strained relations that stemmed from a former semi-civilian government that blocked a China-backed dam in 2011, which was meant to send most of its electricity to China’s Yunnan province.
